Treatments
Veins come in different shapes, sizes and depths, so several different treatment options are available depending on your specific condition.
For larger veins, Sclerotherapy has, for many years, been the gold standard. This involves injecting a sclerosing agent using a very small needle inside the vein. This will cause the vein to collapse and be absorbed into the body (this takes appx. 6-8 weeks to complete).
For the needle-phobics, or for veins too small to inject, Safire Medical Spa, in Richmond, Indiana, offers laser vein removal as an effective alternative.
- Reduction - 1 treatment
- Maintenance - every 6 weeks
- How does it work?
- For larger, deeper veins, a mid-infrared laser is used, and for smaller, more superficial veins, a visible laser will be used. The laser beam is absorbed by the blood in your blood vessel. The heat thus generated is transferred to the vessel wall and coagulates (cooks) the vein, so it will be absorbed by your body and disappear.
- How long does the procedure take?
- A typical procedure takes appx. 15-30 minutes.
- Is it painful?
- No; you may feel minor discomfort, a feeling similar to that of a rubber band being snapped gently on your skin
- How many treatments are required?
- Each treatment will reduce the number of veins that are visible, but it is impossible to predict how many treatments will be required.
- What results can I expect?
- Immediately following the procedure, you can expect the vein to look darker for up to several days, after which time it will begin to fade. The entire fading process should take appx. 6 weeks.
- The anti aging results are permanent! The treated blood vessels should completely disappear, however, the treatment does not prevent more spider veins from appearing, as the laser treatment does not treat the source of the spider veins (bad circulation).
- What precautions should I take after the procedure?
- It is absolutely imperative that your legs stay out of the sun for at least 2-3 weeks following each procedure. Tanning bed use is prohibited, and sunblock will be applied immediately after the procedure.
